Graduation year = 1983
section = Drill Team
subject = 1983
comments = I was on the drill team for
2 years back in 81-82. We went to the
Tangerine Bowl in Florida and it
snowed!! We won several
competitions.. we rocked! Our drill
team back then was mostly part of the
flag corps.. I don't think Mr. Peck liked
us very much. But we rocked!!! I'd
LOVE to see old videos of our
performances. I know they have them
somewhere.

comments = Band camp - who could
ever forget it! I would love to find
tapes of some of the band
performances in the late 70's until
1980 when the drill team performed
with the band.

Graduation year = 1985
section = Tuba
subject = 1982-1985
comments = I remember being at the
tapings of the shows listed above! You
can hear me cheering for the tuba
section in Toccata and Fugue. Band
was the best time of my life. The trip to
Johnson City on 1983 was wonderful!
"I survived in '83 bus #1 to
Tennessee"!! I would love to see you
put some shows from later years on
here. The Bald Mountain show from
'82-'83 season would be the best.
Certainly was the hardest to learn and
perform. Jamie(in the trumpet section)
always yelling..."I'm in my spot" as we
ran the show for the 10th time in one
practice...... I have seen Ken Peck
recently and he still looks the same.
What a nice guy!! I would love to get
together with some of the old gang @
Homecoming this year...if you're
interested...email me!!

comments = I loved to travel. All of the
competitions we went to were so fun. I
loved going to Indy that was the biggest
rush walking out onto the field. Loved it.
The staff was great and so were all of
the students.

Graduation year = 1985
section = Drum Line/Flag Corp
subject = 1985
comments = Where to start?? Those
were the best years of my life! I spent
82, 84, and 85 on the drumline. Bass
Line ROCKED! 83 in the Flag Corps. I
spent one year in Winterguard, and I
was hooked. I had the nerve to
attempt to twirl a rifle! Strangest
memory.. I had to march a competition
in a sling and an eye patch. I caught
my rife with one hand at a Friday night
game. The butt swung up and cracked
me in the eye, and I couldn't see out
my right eye for 3 DAYS! Best
memories... Too many to mention.
Those were the BEST of times..

I was in the Miamisburg High School
Marching Band from 1981-1985. I can
remember loving to see the
Westerville South Marching Band
every fall. They had the best horn
line! They were consistantly in the
BOA finals every year it seemed. I
always wished our band could have
sounded that good. They were a large
band back then and I can remember
when they had such a huge flag
section, it was the largest section of
it's time. They did away with the dance
team (drill team). Please do not take
this the wrong way, but what
happened?...Did Westerville (the city)
get too large? I know that's what can
happen and then they have to build
other highschools which takes kids
away from programs and splits them. I
do remember a Westerville North
Band, they were not as good, however
they did eventually come to hold their
own.

I have never forgotten what great times I
had with the Westerville South High
School Marching Band. I would have to
say the only memory I'm not fond of is
from the 1980 band camp. However, it
did teach me to obey orders and how to
handle a cold shower every morning. I
thoroughly enjoyed performing in the
Bands of America competitions and
various other performances. Ken Peck
and Scott Hickey were great band
directors and always pushed us to do our
best! I still remember the music and
often find myself drumming with my
fingers the snare drum part.
Does anyone have any competition
recordings from 1980-1982? Thanks to
all for making this a great time in High
School!
